    Score Hands-Free with Controller Mode

Log every bird in real time with a Bluetooth controller worn on your vest or arm. Capture where each target went the instant you shoot it — your eyes never leave the field, and your phone stays in your pocket.

    Why score with a controller?

    Eyes on the field

A thumb press logs the shot. No reaching for your phone, no breaking concentration between birds.

    Capture direction in the moment

Per-bird miss direction is most accurate the instant the bird breaks. The controller records it as you shoot, feeding RangeVault's direction analytics.

    Less friction, more logging

Pulling out a phone at a busy range is awkward. A button on your vest makes detailed logging effortless — so you actually do it.

    How it works

    1

    Connect your controller

Power on your controller and connect it to your phone over Bluetooth. RangeVault walks you through setup the first time — there's nothing extra to install.

    2

Open Controller Mode & pick your sport

From the score logging screen, open Controller Mode and choose your discipline — Trap Singles, 5-Stand, Skeet, International Trap, or International Skeet.

    3

Score each bird with one press

One button, one bird: log a hit, a miss, or a miss with its direction in a single press. RangeVault records it in real time, so your eyes never leave the field. Made a mistake? Undo the last bird.

    4

    Review & save

RangeVault automatically splits your session into rounds. Adjust the splits or discard anything that's off, then save each round — with equipment, weather, and station — through the usual scoring form.

    Recommended controllers

These two compact Bluetooth gamepads are our favorites for the range — small, reliable, and easy to wear. Both are widely available online (e.g. Amazon), typically for around $20–40.

    Roomier buttons, still pocket-sized

A flat, keychain-style pad with a generous button layout that's easy to find by feel. A touch larger than the Zero 2, but still small enough to clip to a vest or lanyard.

    8BitDo Zero 2 Bluetooth controller

    8BitDo Zero 2

    The most compact pick

The smaller of the two — a pill-shaped, feather-light controller that all but disappears in a pocket. Ideal when you want the least possible bulk on the vest.
